Slimming Tea, Laxative Tea: The Same?

Slimming tea and laxative tea are the same in most cases.  Of course, slimming tea has a more appealing name.  But, in reality those teas advertised as "slimming" are only hiding the fact that they are laxative laden.

It must be said that there are benefits to slimming teas.  However, many of the benefits are overshadowed by the risks.  The risks of using, and in particular abusing, slimming teas are all related to the laxative content.  It must be noted once again that slimming teas and laxative teas are extremely dangerous for women who are pregnant and should not be used during the term of pregnancy.

Additionally, parents should be alert if their children, daughters in particular, are drinking slimming teas.  The laxative content in these products are the ingredients that stimulate weight loss.  Laxatives are not safe as a weight loss method.

All too often, teenage girls become obsessed with weight loss and will look for that special "something" that will make them slim and trim immediately.  Parents should know that there is no magic cure for obesity or those extra few pounds.  However, teenagers will drink slimming teas --- laxative teas --- to lose a few pounds to fit into the prom dress or the bikini without a stomach bulge.

When first used slimming teas can create a sudden weight loss of up to a few pounds, depending on how much is consumed.  While it is scientifically proven that green tea, oolong tea, and other pure teas will increase the fat burning process, slimming teas do not depend on the natural benefits of pure teas but on the laxative content for quick weight loss.  Suddenly dropping a few pounds from the consumption of slimming tea is not related to fat burning but rather to the diuretic effects and the laxative effects.  This weight will be regained once the beverage --- or pill--- is no longer consumed.

It cannot be stated often enough that those people who have a tendency towards anorexia nervosa and bulimia will gravitate toward slimming tea products.  While everyone who uses slimming teas may not be at risk for these conditions, it is easy for those who are borderline for these conditions to rationalize the use.  Again, please refer to the risks associated with the use of slimming tea products.

Perhaps the most important distinction should be between tea and slimming tea or laxative tea.  Tea, pure tea, has wonderful health benefits including weight loss benefits.  Slimming tea (laxative tea) on average contains only approximately 25% tea.

It is recommended that the benefits and risks be compared before using any slimming laxative tea product and that the consumer be aware of the contents.
